Harvard gives special "females-only" gym time to appease Muslim girls

This is bullshit. Harvard is closing off one of its rec centers to male students at certain times to create “female only” gym times. The reason was cited as some Muslim students on campus (I think the news report says half a dozen) feel uncomfortable working out in a co-ed environment. Non-Muslim women were pretty cool with it; it seemed from the ones interviewed that they enjoyed the idea of a women-only workout.

OK…ummmmmm…if this was a religious thing, where are the guys in kufis demanding the same thing for guys? Isn’t it fitna for guys to be working out in co-ed environments also? Hell, non-Muslim guys will go for it too. You girls think we like it when you’re at the gym hogging the machines we want to use?

Edit: Ali Eteraz has written about this more eloquently and in more detail than I have here.

hmm, i disagree and agree. what’s wrong with asking for female’s only gym time? as a woman i am utterly self-conscious of my flab and running on the treadmill in the gym in front of guys. no biggie, i run there anyways, but i wouldn’t mind having a women’s only gym or women’s gym time so that i was more comfortable (think “curves” gym). but yes, i do see the point that if requested, it shouldn’t be made into a religious issue, rather should be requested on behalf of women in general who would like a more comfortable atmosphere to exercise.
